It’s finally summer! That means planting, cook outs, and projects. The planting and cook outs are the fun easy part, the projects not so much. This year I have a veritable laundry list of fixes that desperately need to be done.
I need a new front porch/deck, new doors (front and back screen, back inner), chimney repair or just removal (prefer removal but themeand either re-route water heater exhaust vent or install a tankless one), build a back deck, new storm/screen windows, new bathroom window with possible wall repair, paint all rooms and the basement, finish removing the plastic tiles lining the kitchen walls, rip up existing carpet then re-carpet Aine’s room, re-floor kitchen/back hall/basement stairs….
It seems as if the list gross every day. Some of these tasks aren’t as important and can wait until next year. However I’d like to get them done as soon as I can.
Some of these tasks I can do on my own or with help. Most, however, I’ll either need to hire a contractor or bribe people to help me because I sure can’t build a deck myself!
It’s been roughly 30 years since I bought new living room furniture. A few weeks ago, I found some deals that I couldn’t pass up. And frankly, it was time.
The old blue couch and love seat gave us all they had and saw some pretty amazing times. The past couple of years were rough on them, springs went the wrong way, cushions were getting a little flatter, and the cats had found new scratching posts.
(not the original location of the love seat)
I had want to paint the living room before buying new furniture but I guess it wasn’t in the stars.
I wasn’t too keen on the color of the new pieces but once they were in place I knew I made the right decision.
(the lighting isn’t the best)
And the cats like them too 🤓
I started a new job recently. I didn’t want to but it was necessary. The business is good but doesn’t pay the bills. I’ll keep creating/sewing but more on the side now.
I’ll be taking a three weekend class this March to earn my teaching certificate, which something that I’ve wanted to do for some time. I’m really excited about it and March can’t come soon enough.
All babies are curious, kittens especially. Out new little guy Sabo is on the higher end of curious. He’s a little over four months old now and into EVERYTHING! He helps us make the beds. He eats the grown cats food. And just last night, the adorable ball of fur chewed through one of our phone charging cords…..
Yeah, it’s been far too long. I can list a plethora of excuses but instead will promise a post at least once a week. I’ll post about the mundane aspects of life, the trials and tribulations of helping a 17 year old with Algebra and Chemistry, and the processes of getting ready for a move over seas.
I’m not counting today as a post, so be ready for something some time this week!
2015 is now behind us and there’s nothing but bright futures and unexpected adventures ahead of us. May 2016 be the year of more awesome than what should legally be allowed!
I’m not a huge fan of hot weather so 99.9% of any home improvement projects get put off until the cold breezes of Autumn come around. I don’t mind working outside in an extra layer, or two. I do mind cute little helpless chipmunks getting into my dryer via the dryer exhaust vent. (I rescued the little critters and got them back outside happy and healthy – my cats, on the other hand, weren’t so happy with the rescue.)
Yesterday found me running errands to the local hardware store for a new dryer venting system. Hardware stores, like office supply stores, are a world of wonder to me. I love them. I want to buy all the things. I want to spackle stuff. I want to re-floor my kitchen with Italian marble. I want to re-grout my bathroom. Basically I want to do all the things…most of which I’ve never done and would end very, very poorly. So, I spend WAY too much time in hardware stores…so much so that I came home when the sun was just putting itself to bed. I did get the venting put together for the inside of the house, the outside venting will hopefully be put on today…after work.
In other news, I’m back to researching copywriting jobs. I’ve said it before that I’m much happier with writing. I still need a new laptop (especially one where all the keys are in place and actually work) but the new job is helping to fund that. I won’t quit the new job just yet, though. If all goes the way I want it to, I’ll be writing full time and supplementing my income with the outside job. (and writing here more often….and finishing the two posts that are sitting in my Drafts folder…..)
My schedule thus far has been all shades of everywhere. Coordinating car use, who’ll be with the kiddo at University (she’s only 16), and working has been more than a challenge. Whereas I do enjoy a good challenge, this one has moved me to my wits end.
Next month will be better.
I can’t complain about the new job though. Sure, I’d rather be a stay at home Mom getting paid to write and sell my bags….but that’s proven to not be a steady enough paycheck to live by.
Next month will be better though.
I’m still dealing with technology issues and now another key fell off my laptop keyboard AND the damn ‘N’ key doesn’t work half the time.
Next month will be better.
I fell off the Writing and Blogging 101 lessons. I will definitely pick those back up on the next round. I miss writing as much as I did and hope to get back at it soon.
Before next month.
can really suck sometimes.
I think I’m getting more acclimated to the new routine though. It was a rough couple of days when I ran out of coffee….the horror! However, green tea has become my new morning besty and I am fully off the caffeinated liquid gold…..for now. Hell, I even went for a run/walk yesterday with the kiddo.
So, with all that said, I vow to post at least every other day. I would also like to finish the two posts that I have in my Drafts folder as well as finish up Writing and Blogging 101.
There really isn’t a moment when I’m not reading something. My world is littered with billboards, advertisments lining the upper sections of the bus, scraps of paper haphazardly pinned to cork boards throughout campus…it’s rather annoying. Don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy reading just not every waking moment.
So, my days are filed with sundry activities. Before the sun even thinks about waking up I’m: awake, showered, have fed the cats – which consists of me chasing them around the house with plates of their food because each cat needs to eat in a different location. ….every day, and have read the few news sites that I deem worthy of reporting, have drunk of few cups of coffee to help me evalyate the day, and have tried, on average, five times to have woken up my daughter.
I work for my business as well as a new job that i just started. I tutor my daughter when she gets stuck on a subject, I cook, clean, and do the grocery shopping because my mom is retired and shouldn’t have to do that stuff.
And somewhere in all that, I find time to write 😄
