It’s finally summer! That means planting, cook outs, and projects. The planting and cook outs are the fun easy part, the projects not so much. This year I have a veritable laundry list of fixes that desperately need to be done.
I need a new front porch/deck, new doors (front and back screen, back inner), chimney repair or just removal (prefer removal but themeand either re-route water heater exhaust vent or install a tankless one), build a back deck, new storm/screen windows, new bathroom window with possible wall repair, paint all rooms and the basement, finish removing the plastic tiles lining the kitchen walls, rip up existing carpet then re-carpet Aine’s room, re-floor kitchen/back hall/basement stairs….
It seems as if the list gross every day. Some of these tasks aren’t as important and can wait until next year. However I’d like to get them done as soon as I can.
Some of these tasks I can do on my own or with help. Most, however, I’ll either need to hire a contractor or bribe people to help me because I sure can’t build a deck myself!
It’s been roughly 30 years since I bought new living room furniture. A few weeks ago, I found some deals that I couldn’t pass up. And frankly, it was time.
The old blue couch and love seat gave us all they had and saw some pretty amazing times. The past couple of years were rough on them, springs went the wrong way, cushions were getting a little flatter, and the cats had found new scratching posts.
(not the original location of the love seat)
I had want to paint the living room before buying new furniture but I guess it wasn’t in the stars.
I wasn’t too keen on the color of the new pieces but once they were in place I knew I made the right decision.
(the lighting isn’t the best)
And the cats like them too 🤓
I started a new job recently. I didn’t want to but it was necessary. The business is good but doesn’t pay the bills. I’ll keep creating/sewing but more on the side now.
I’ll be taking a three weekend class this March to earn my teaching certificate, which something that I’ve wanted to do for some time. I’m really excited about it and March can’t come soon enough.
All babies are curious, kittens especially. Out new little guy Sabo is on the higher end of curious. He’s a little over four months old now and into EVERYTHING! He helps us make the beds. He eats the grown cats food. And just last night, the adorable ball of fur chewed through one of our phone charging cords…..
Yeah, it’s been far too long. I can list a plethora of excuses but instead will promise a post at least once a week. I’ll post about the mundane aspects of life, the trials and tribulations of helping a 17 year old with Algebra and Chemistry, and the processes of getting ready for a move over seas.
I’m not counting today as a post, so be ready for something some time this week!
2015 is now behind us and there’s nothing but bright futures and unexpected adventures ahead of us. May 2016 be the year of more awesome than what should legally be allowed!
I’m not a huge fan of hot weather so 99.9% of any home improvement projects get put off until the cold breezes of Autumn come around. I don’t mind working outside in an extra layer, or two. I do mind cute little helpless chipmunks getting into my dryer via the dryer exhaust vent. (I rescued the little critters and got them back outside happy and healthy – my cats, on the other hand, weren’t so happy with the rescue.)
Yesterday found me running errands to the local hardware store for a new dryer venting system. Hardware stores, like office supply stores, are a world of wonder to me. I love them. I want to buy all the things. I want to spackle stuff. I want to re-floor my kitchen with Italian marble. I want to re-grout my bathroom. Basically I want to do all the things…most of which I’ve never done and would end very, very poorly. So, I spend WAY too much time in hardware stores…so much so that I came home when the sun was just putting itself to bed. I did get the venting put together for the inside of the house, the outside venting will hopefully be put on today…after work.
In other news, I’m back to researching copywriting jobs. I’ve said it before that I’m much happier with writing. I still need a new laptop (especially one where all the keys are in place and actually work) but the new job is helping to fund that. I won’t quit the new job just yet, though. If all goes the way I want it to, I’ll be writing full time and supplementing my income with the outside job. (and writing here more often….and finishing the two posts that are sitting in my Drafts folder…..)
